Singapore On Foot: 3 Must-Do Walking Tours

Self-Guided Walking Tours from Grand Park City Hall Singapore

Singapore is a city best explored at your own pace. With rich history, bold architecture and vibrant neighbourhoods just steps apart, walking is one of the most rewarding ways to experience the city. From Grand Park City Hall, you are perfectly placed to discover its heritage streets, riverside paths and lively cultural quarters without rushing or needing transport.

Below is a simple guide to three self-guided walks that begin right at our doorstep.

1. The Civic District Stroll

A gentle loop through Singapore’s historic heart

Start at the National Gallery Singapore, home to Southeast Asian art and grand colonial architecture. Continue towards the Padang, where sweeping lawns face heritage buildings such as the Old Parliament House and Victoria Theatre.

Make your way to the Singapore River for a calm waterfront walk, passing old bridges, sculptures and cafés. End your stroll at Clarke Quay, where you can enjoy a relaxed drink by the water before walking back to the hotel.

Why this walk: It is scenic, easy and rich with stories from Singapore’s earliest days.

2. The Heritage and Food Trail

Colourful streets, lively markets and local flavours

Head towards Chinatown for rows of shophouses, temples and market stalls. Visit Sri Mariamman Temple or simply wander through the narrow lanes filled with small shops and street snacks.

From there, walk towards Telok Ayer Street, where old clan houses sit beside modern cafés and bars. Stop for kopi at a local coffee shop or enjoy a light meal before heading back via Ann Siang Hill and its charming staircase paths.

Why this walk: Perfect for those who love culture, food and discovering the city’s vibrant roots.

3. The Marina Bay Promenade

A longer walk with sweeping city views

Walk straight to Marina Bay for one of Singapore’s most iconic skyline routes. The waterfront path leads you past the Esplanade, the Helix Bridge and the ArtScience Museum. The view opens up beautifully at every turn, especially near sunset.

For a quiet moment, pause at the bayfront seating areas before looping back through the Esplanade Park towards the hotel.

Why this walk: Open views, calm breezes and plenty of space to explore at your own speed.
